Jo Edwards, Artist

Jo Edwards Jo Edwards Jo Edwards

Painted with vivid hues and heavy brushstrokes, the energetic background is balanced by a quiet minimalist
composition. I sell only originals and even though the palette may be repeated, each painting is unique and one of a kind.

Everyone has a need to create. I discovered mine at a very early age and thought I would draw, paint and sculpt forever. Then life took me in other directions as life often will. It was only in my “second” lifetime was I able to come back to doing what I know I was meant to do, beginning slowly, studying with masters in different media, and learning what works best for me as an artist.

My work is very eclectic in that I am just as happy standing in front of an easel laying paint on canvas as I am leaning over a bathtub pouring watercolor on paper.

My subjects vary but most often I am drawn to trees. I paint them realistically and I paint them impressionistically and I suppose what I really do is paint them expressionistically. For me, the uniform stand of trees depict order and harmony and peace and quiet in a life that is, for most of us, a little chaotic and very demanding, loud and sometimes brusque. They represent the calm that we need to go to in order to bring life back to the speed and level at which it needs to be for us to be at our best.

If life gets out of hand, I know that I can walk into the studio, lay in a background in whatever hue seems to speak to me from the palette, and then relax into the joy of creating the peaceful scenes. My hope is that my work brings that same feeling to the collector who chooses to take it into their home or work environment.
