I have been crocheting since I was eight years old. I like to work in a very small scale, producing tiny lace doilies, encircled in sterling silver as jewelry. I also make larger doilies from vintage patterns and frame them under glass.

My current work focuses on the emotional and healing impact of art and painting through the use of color, symbols, and texture. While I have always loved working in oil, most of my current work explores the versatility and unique expression of acrylics.

Most of my work is medium to large scale acrylic, oil pastel, or mixed media inspired by nature with a modern edge. While pieces range from whimsical to abstract, they generally incorporate a high contrast pallette and texture created by layering either paper, modeling paste or paint. I work to evoke a sense of joy or a feeling of connection to flora and fauna. It has been referred to as "happy art".

Hand Knit Wire Creations

Hand Knit Wire Creations Hand Knit Wire Creations Hand Knit Wire Creations Hand Knit Wire Creations

My artwork is all created by hand using ordinary knitting needles and various pliers. I have developed my own technique of knitting with wire, which I call “knitting off the needle.” With my technique I use only one needle at a time for the purposes of pulling the stitch and controlling the stitch size.

I enjoy working in a wide variety of media and currently my main focus has been creating jewelry redesigns (altered art). I greatly enjoy redesigning jewelry as finding just the right components to collage together into one-of-a-kind pieces is exciting! Another focus is embossed metal art (repujado). Working in 36 gauge metal sheets, I emboss my linear designs which I then embolden with blocks of bright enamel paint. I developed this bold style of embossed metal from the idea to keep the designs clear and colorful which results in a stained glass quality in its simplicity. My favorite motifs include the sun, sunflower, and heart. It makes me happy when my work brings happiness to others!

Currently I have been transitioning from 2D drawing to 3D sculptural fiber art. In my drawings I use color pencil to create landscapes with texture and depth. In my 3D work I use crochet, knitting and wet felting and other fibers like jute, silk, lace, burlap to create texture and highly charged color. (214) 708-0293

With a view of the trees at my table I sit, kneading and working the clay. Until forms and shapes appear. After they are baked and cooled, they are glazed, hand painted or left naked. Then they are crafted into necklaces, earring or bracelets.

Amanda's Pencil

Amanda's Pencil

My life long love affair with drawing and with Texas inspired my Texas in Wonderland Series. This whimsical group of graphite pencil drawings artistically represent the symbols of the Lone Star State. Some close-up photos of the state plant of Texas (the prickly pear cactus), which I snapped in Uvalde County, sent my imagination into overdrive when I looked at the textures of the cactus leaves, particularly those that were decaying. I grabbed my favorite graphite pencil and began drawing the details of the decay. I simplified the textures into circular shapes and began repeating those shapes in other drawings.

What is Steam Punk Jewelry? It gets its popularity from a growing resistance to corporate modernization, the mass commercialization of virtually everything, coupled with the surge of nostalgia for all things vintage and antique.
All jewelry is hand assembled, one of a kind and created by me and is 99% re-purposed or recycled found pieces,Broken unrepairable vintage jewelry, wind up watches, gears and other found objects that were considered "junk" and ready to be tossed away. I have rescued them and made beautiful Art pieces to be worn and cherished.
