As a native Houstonian, Autumn Beckman graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where she studied painting and photography, and she earned a BFA in painting from the University of Houston. She is currently working on a PhD in Psychology, looking at the ways women artists use their art to renegotiate their identity and meaning in life following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and Hurricane Ike in Galveston.
