My life long love affair with drawing and with Texas inspired my Texas in Wonderland Series. This whimsical group of graphite pencil drawings artistically represent the symbols of the Lone Star State. Some close-up photos of the state plant of Texas (the prickly pear cactus), which I snapped in Uvalde County, sent my imagination into overdrive when I looked at the textures of the cactus leaves, particularly those that were decaying. I grabbed my favorite graphite pencil and began drawing the details of the decay. I simplified the textures into circular shapes and began repeating those shapes in other drawings.
