When founded in March 2004, the arts market was located on an unused lot behind the Kaplans-Ben Hur Department store. That was at Yale St. and 21st. After finally establishing name recognition the market was forced to move when Kaplans closed after 85 years. Now located just two blocks south on 19th St., the market was renamed for the date it occurs rather than location: First Saturday Arts Market.

To Get In The Market

All Year -All art mediums are welcome -however this is a fine art and contemporary fine craft event with a limit on space. To keep a balance and the focus on fine art, some mediums are limited.

Jewelers
Jewelry that is more than 70% made by the artist gets preference, this includes, glass, ceramic, metals, paper and re-purposed materials.
Currently most assemblage is being turned down due to the high number of fine art jewelers attending.

Art forms that are not considered fine art:
The patrons at this venue like funky, eclectic, and WOW items. If you feel you fit that category we'd love to hear from you!

This is a Maker is the Seller event. If you didn't make it, you can't sell it here.

WHEN * WHERE

  • The market takes place on the 1st Saturday of each month year round, rain or shine
  • Day Shows October through May, hours are 11am - 6pm
  • Evening Shows June through September hours are 6 p.m. - 10 pm
  • The market is located in the Historic Houston Heights on the parking lot of Wind Water Asian Antiques Gallery

HOW

  • Complete the online registration form.
  • After acceptance into the market, it is first pay, first in.
  • Artists/vendors are required to show proof of a tax I.D.
  • Texas Sales and Use Tax Permit here.

DETAILS

  • Spaces are 10x10, you must bring a tent/canopy to fit that space.
  • You provide all setup equipment including lighting.
  • Booth sharing is allowed. Each artist must fill out a registration form.
  • Booth assignments are given when you arrive at the market to set up by the manager.
  • This is a rain or shine event, no refunds are given for inclimate weather.
  • Electricity is available at no extra charge.
  • Deadline! Gotta have one, it is the Friday, one week before the market.
  • The cost for the space is $70 per market day year round. Fee may increase during special events.
Step One:
  1. Complete the registration form and
  2. Email minimum of 3 photos of work fsamphotos [at] gmail.com
  3. Texas Sales and Use Tax Permit Number
  4. City of Houston info (details on form)
Step Two:
  1. Your registration and images will be reviewed
  2. An acceptance letter is sent upon approval
  3. First pay / first in after approval.
