Houston, July 24, 2008. - Memorial area resident Heather Yoki-Sanchez is one of 40 artists invited to participate at the newly named First Saturday Art Market for the annual White Linen Night in the Heights event. Now into its fifth year the monthly fine arts festival in the Heights formerly named Yale Street Arts Market for its original street location, will be joined by nearly the entire retail and business community of the Houston Heights for the annual White Linen Night in the Heights on August 2. Artists in attendance during this years event were invited to attend as the best of the best to represent what the First Saturday Art Market has to offer year round.
Yoki-Sanchez will showcase her latest works of contemporary mixed media on canvas paintings. After attaining her Bachelor of Arts at Oklahoma Baptist University studying Sociology and Spanish, Sanchez chose to move to Mexico City where she developed a sincere and profound appreciation for the urban look and lifestyle. These two influences are apparent on her canvas and provide the notable contrast between chaos and calm.
"This is the busiest event of the year for us, people come to the Heights from all over the city and I want the market to look its best." Says Mitch Cohen, founder of the arts market and one of the White Linen Night organizers. "When you go to a special event, you want to look your best, and that's what we have at the art market on White Linen Night in my opinion, the best of the best. Heather's body of work and her presentation really make you feel like you're walking into a gallery, not a tent."
