Houston, July 23, 2008 - Ten Heights area artists will be in attendence the newly named First Saturday Art Market for the annual White Linen Night in the Heights event. Now into its fifth year the monthly fine arts festival in the Heights formerly named Yale Street Arts Market for its original street location, will be joined by nearly the entire retail and business community of the Houston Heights for the annual White Linen Night in the Heights on August 2. Artists in attendance during this years event were invited to attend as the best of the best to represent what the First Saturday Art Market has to offer year round. Participating Heights area artists are Karla Cisneros, Marilynn S. Barber, Cindy Babbitt, Ron Gordon, Michael Huggins, Tim Lane, Duskin Hill, Jonatan Lopez, Kiki Neumann and Susan Goettsch.

White Linen Night in the Heights, is billed by the organizers as sultry, steamy, exotic and artfully provocative. Visitors from far and wide discover all kinds of hidden Heights treasures. Houston's oldest planned community circa 1890, the Heights' Victorian and classic Bungalow architecture provide a contrasting backdrop for the modern, hip, eclectic, funky, chic, and quirky goings-on during the event. It's home to many notable best-ofs, quirky bars, and the First Saturday Art Market. "Hot southern nights just beg for this kind of thing," said Karen Mann, one of the organizers.

"This is the busiest event of the year for us, people come to the Heights from all over the city and I want the market to look its best." Says Mitch Cohen, founder of the arts market and one of the White Linen Night organizers. "When you go to a special event, you want to look your best, and that's what we have at the art market on White Linen Night in my opinion, the best of the best." The vendors list includes a wide variety including fiber artists, photographers, custom jewelry, metal and wood sculpture, pottery- functional, decorative and conceptual and as many different paint categories as there are mediums. The market also an eclectic mix from area farmers markets including soaps, olive oils, fresh breads, flowers and yes even pecan pie in a jar.

Entertainment at the First Saturday Art Market will feature local musicians as well. Duke Jones of the Woodland Heights will open the festivities at 6 p.m. with a mix of blues and western favorites and at 8 p.m. The Danielle Reich Trio returns to perform classics from Cole Porter, contemporary tunes by Bjork to originals by Reich.

Located on the parking lot of Wind Water Asian Antiques Gallery at 548 W. 19th St. near popular Heights restaurants and shops, the arts market will open at 6 p.m for White Linen Night in the Heights on August 2.
